Do We Embrace Death?
There once was a dragon, wise and fair,
Who was hard to find if not in her lair.
She flew sapphire skies on azure wings
And as she did so, her soul did sing.
She looked to her left and then to her right
Where she saw two dragons engaged in a fight.
She knew of the purpose, she knew it was right
So what was so bad about this certain fight?
The strengths of a dragon are told by it's eyes.
They held only secrets and could tell no lies.
As she neared them she stopped to survey the two
And what she saw in their eyes was something quite new.
One's eyes told of wisdom, strength and charm.
The other's promised love and, to her, no harm.
Which did she want? Who was to win?
Did it really matter? Would she loose again?
The choice was not hers, she knew that well.
The winner, she found, only time would tell.
Her heart was like ice, so easy to break.
How much more of this could she possibly take?
What was so special? What was it worth?
A few days of love and dragons to birth?
Is life that expendable? Is death not to fear?
As she thought of this she shed one single ice tear.
She studied them more and maybe too close
For as she came nearer their aggressiveness rose...
They fought on and on, she felt sure they'd both die,
But finally they stopped and plummeted from the sky.
Down and down they fell, so far,
Yet the beauty they saw was like a shining star.
As they fell they watched the ice dragon unfold
Her wings of ice, their beauty untold.
They watched her watch them from so far above,
Her strength unmatched, beauty of a dove.
The sunlight shimmered through her like a prism of glass
That they recall from long ago or from dreams of the past.
To their surprise she refolded her wings
And swooped ever lower, her beauty unseen.
With four mighty arms and talons on each
She grasped for them both yet too far out of reach.
She swooped lower and lower, her talons outstretched
But to carry them both seemed a little far-fetched.
She had to decide which one to choose
For the other one she knew she would loose.
Inside her the turmoil was ever so strong.
What was her decision? Why'd it take so long?
Choose for yourself which one she will choose
For the ice dragon, again, does not wish to loose.
"Do we embrace death? Do we cherish life?
Is mortality a blessing or is it just strife?
These were her words as she heard you say
"Don't listen to me...Choose your own way..."
